Frequently Asked Questions

Our highest priority is our service to this community-- that includes facilitating the highest understanding of the services we provide.

Q: How do I call the VTRS?

A: We cannot self-dispatch. If you or someone you know is experiencing an emergency, dial 9-1-1.

Q: Do our services cost anything?

A: No. The Virginia Tech Rescue Squad is fully volunteer, meaning that our services-- whether you are just getting checked out, or are being transported to the hospital-- are completely free.

Q: What level of care do we provide?

A: We offer 24/7 Advanced Life Support (ALS) care for our patients, meaning that if a patient is in need of a higher level of care, we have advanced EMT's and paramedics who will respond.

Q: Do we operate during holidays and/or academic breaks?

A: Yes. We are fully operational during all holidays and academic breaks.

Q: Will my information be shared or disclosed with anyone if I am a patient?

A: No. Any and all personal or identifying information will never be shared to the public.

Q: Which hospital will I be taken to if I am transported?

A: LewisGale Montgomery Hospital (3700 S Main St, Blacksburg, VA 24060) is the most common hospital we transport to, however, in certain cases we can take patients to surrounding medical facilities including Schiffert Healthcare Center, Carilion New River Valley Medical Center, Roanoke Memorial Hospital, LewisGale Salem, or can transfer care to Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) for further transport if necessary.
